About Me

Hi, I'm Blaine Kifle.

Oncology Nurse, Certified Health Coach & Certified Patient Advocate

Originally from Ethiopia and raised in Dallas, Texas, I eventually found my way to the Pacific Northwest, where I’ve happily planted roots and have called this beautiful region home for almost 30 years. Growing up, I said the words, “I would never be a nurse” and “oncology sounds terrible.” Spoiler alert: never say never.

My journey into healthcare began unexpectedly in 2001 after accepting a “temporary” position at a Level I Trauma Center, but that start led to over 16 years of administrative and clinical roles in academic medical centers in Seattle and 24 years and counting in health care.

As it turns out, supporting patients and their families through their cancer journeys has brought me an incredible sense of purpose and joy that I never imagined possible. It’s a privilege to do work that truly makes a difference, and I’m grateful every day for the path I didn’t see coming.

Education:

Bachelor of Science, Nursing

Master of Health Informatics and Health Information Management

Certifications:

Certified Health Coach [National Society of Health Coaches]

Board Certified Patient Advocate [Patient Advocate Certification Board]

For the past 14 years, I’ve been working as a nurse and Clinical Nurse Educator specializing in hematology oncology, with experience spanning critical care, oncologic rare diseases, transfusion medicine, and stem cell/bone marrow transplant. My work has taken me across the spectrum of patient care, from bedside support to research roles.

In 2018, I completed a Master of Health Informatics and Health Information Management at the University of Washington’s School of Public Health. This degree has let me work on combining my hope for technology’s transformative power, my passion for the science of medicine and the art of caring for people. After graduating, I spent nearly six years in the biopharmaceutical industry as a Medical Affairs Health Informatics Lead and Clinical Nurse Educator.

Cooper & Addie

Today, I’m lucky to be able to work with clients under the OncoCoach banner to help others navigate the complexities of cancer care while focusing on their health goals.

I still live in the Seattle area with my two ridiculously cute (and moderately well-behaved) mixed-breed dogs. I’m surrounded by a supportive community of friends and several of my many (many) family members who have been most of the driving force behind getting OncoCoach up and running. Actually, “lucky” doesn’t really cover it…
